A 6 m long and 2 m high magnifying glass, inspired by microelectronics and nano-measurement technology, the traditional connection to optics and the physicist Ernst Abbe, welcomes the visitors of the building.
The building (in short: EAZ), which was funded by the Ernst Abbe Foundation, is home to the Presidential Board of the TU Ilmenau, the Research Service and Technology Transfer and the IMMS GmbH - Institute for Microelectronics and Mechatronic Systems.
The Department of Economics and Media (WM) and associated institutes are also located here. Furthermore, sections of the Central Institute for Continuing Education (ZIB) such as the Languages Group, the Competence Centre Nano-positioning, and Nano-measuring Machines and the "Flexible Audio-visual Stereo Projection Facility" (FASP) are in this building.
The Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology (IDMT) is next door.
