Feynmanbau
The Feynman Building serves as the Centre for Micro- and Nanotechnologies (ZMN). Here about 40 groups and junior research groups work in an interdisciplinary manner in the field of micro- and nanotechnology - from fundamentals to applications.
The research centre has a total area of 2,000 sqm with 680 sqm of clean rooms. The proximity of the various groups and research groups creates an intensive scientific exchange in a creative environment.
In addition, there are special laboratories, for example for working with biological samples (safety level S1), the analytical laboratories or laboratories for high-precision measurement technology, which allow accuracies in the nano-meter range. The ZMN, which has been funded by the DFG as a core facility since 2013, also provides its excellent equipment and scientific expertise to universities, research institutions and companies.
The Power Electronics and Control Group in the field of electrical power engineering provides modern measuring equipment for students in the machine hall and neighbouring laboratories.
The university town of Ilmenau (approx. 38,900 inhabitants) is embedded in the beautiful nature of the Thuringian Forest and is located not far from the Free State' s capital Erfurt. It combines tradition and modernity through the work of Goethe, the innovative power of the technology region and the Technische Universität.
Ilmenau stands for a long tradition of cultural highlights, such as the city festival, Kickelhahn event, pottery market and the legendary Gabelbachrennen (classic car race). One should not forget the numerous events initiated and organized together with Ilmenau students, such as the Ilmpuls Festival, FilmLebenFestival, the International Student Week ISWI or the Long Night of Technology, each of which turns Ilmenau into a vibrant city.

The local recreation area is located directly at the Ilmenau ponds and is perfect for relaxing in nature, for a boat trip or a visit to the neighbouring zoo. With a magnificent view of the “Big Pond”, you can enjoy the fresh seasonal dishes of the Mediterranean cuisine in the restaurant "Haus am See". The beer garden, grill and beach house are the perfect setting to spend pleasant hours with fellow students, family, or friends, or to enjoy cultural events in a deck chair and watch the sunset.
